Health Program
The marginalization and abandonment of children with physical and intellectual disabilities in Bolivia continues to be a growing problem. Historically these vulnerable populations were stigmatized within Bolivian society and today many are left abandoned as families do not have the economic resources to care for these children. In response to this immense need in the community, Adelante Bolivia began its endeavor to establish occupational and physical therapy programs aimed at supporting institutions in Bolivia that house or provide care for people with disabilities from low income families or who have been abandoned.
The programs are designed and implemented by licensed and certified occupational and physical therapist and focus on improving sensory and cognitive development, stimulating the central nervous system, facilitating motor development, and most importantly educating the child’s family or caretakers on creating a loving and dignified environment for the child.
